ORF HD is the first complete chain in high resolution sent by a public television in the countries of German language and that will be distributed by the Astra satellites

SES Astra has announced the launching through the orbital position of 19,2º This of atélites Astra of ORF HD, new chain that will begin its emissions from first of May with the programming of contents of ORF 1 in high resolution format.

Also it announces the transmission of the 31 soccers match of Eurocopa 2008 of the UEFA, that will be disputed in Austria and Switzerland, also in high resolution.

The agreement between SES Astra and ORF contemplates to the use additional capacity for the new chain in HD. The cooperation with ORS, a ORF branch, includes the possibility of incorporating new channels in high resolution and also of using a transponder of complete form and completes as of January of 2010.

After the launching of ORF HD, the systems of combinandos satellites of SES Astra and SES Sirius they will transmit 31 chains in high resolution. The forecasts are that from now on and until the end of year 2010, SES Astra reaches the number of a hundred of channels in HD.
