The European Union considers to finance a channel in Arab
The European Commission studies to promote the creation of a Euronews channel in Arab, although it recognizes the lack of bottoms to finance this project, that would have a cost considered among three and five million annual Euros

Vice-president of the Commission in charge of Institutional Relations and Estrategia of Communication, Margot Wallstrom, affirmed Tuesday to the electronic publishing “EUobserver” that “in the present climate, would be an idea absolutely adapted with the purpose of to contribute to construct bridges with the Arab and Muslim world”.

Wallstrom was expressed thus after meeting with the Members of the European Parliament of the Commission of Culture of the European Parliament.

“We could increase our contribution financial to Euronews”, said the commissariats to the parliamentarians, arguing who the project would be “expensive but rather feasible”. However, own the commissariats threw doubts on the financing possibilities.

According to the publication, Brussels destines every year five million Euros to finance the Euronews channel and to add the Arab to the seven languages in which at present it emits (English, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish) would require a very important additional investment. Euronews reachs at 140 million homes in Europe and 16 million in Africa and East.
