The presidents of Hispasat, Petra Mateos, and Arianespace, Jean-Yves Le Gall, signed the contract of putting into orbit of the satellite, the fifth Spanish who takes to the space the European partnership.
Amazon-2, constructed by EADS-Astrium and with a weight of 5,400 kilos, supposes the tenth third contract of Arianespace in which it goes of year and it will take off on board the shuttle from the station of Kurú, in the French Guayana, indicated the European partnership in an official notice.
The satellite is equipped with 54 repeaters of Ku band and ten of C band, will last of fifteen years and will be placed in a geostationary orbit of 61 degrees the west.
Previously, Arianespace had placed in orbit the Hispasat satellites 1A and 1B in 1992 and 1993; 2005 Spainsat and XTAR-Eur in 2006.
For the President of Hispasat, the awarding of this contract has been allowing to continue with “the plan of growth and expansion initiated for a year, and with which the group will duplicate its space capacity for America and will obtain a significant improvement of its competitive position and company of reference within the sector of the operators of satellites”.
Gall, on the other hand, showed its “pride to him” to be able to serve “a so prestigious client”, which represents “a gesture of extreme confidence and recognition of the quality and the excellence” of its supply.
