Spanish television studies a «solution satelital» for the diffusion of his offer of Terrestrial Digital Television (TDT) on having thought that «one cannot hope» that his sign should come across antennas in ground to the totality of the Spanish population in the future. At present, in analogical sign, after 50 years of functioning of the public chain, the channel TVE coverage reaches 99 per cent of the Spanish population.

According to the public chain, this solution would be «cheaper and effective» before this situation. The current regulation established in the Technical Plan of adaptation to the TDT, demands from channel TVE a coverage of 98 per cent of the population for the year 2010, date of the 'analogical blackout', therefore, most likely, 800.000 persons - 2 remaining per cent - will stay without television service on not having been able to receive the sign of the only system of diffusion from this year.

«For it, RTVE has raised the solution satelital to guarantee the universality of the access to the contents of the signs of TDT in the whole national territory», as he makes sure the Direction of the public group of means in a parliamentary answer. «RTVE is working to reach in an intensive way the satellite coverage for the whole national territory at the time that it is advanced, in accordance with the corresponding Technical Plans, in the enlargement of the terrestrial coverage of the TDT», he affirms the Direction.

The diffusion for satellite would allow the universal coverage in Spain, although the users would lose some of the possibilities that the TDT offers on the subject of interactive services. The distribution of the sign for ground needs the installation of issuing centers on the part of companies of telecommunications.
