These tests are framed inside the activities that Hispasat is developing to improve his services in high definition.

At present, Hispasat spreads and HD distributes in Europe several channels in high definition like the Channel +, Channel + DCine HD and Channel + Sports HD of the Digital Spanish platform +, National Geographic, Sport TV and Mov of the Portuguese platform Zon TV End and, also in Portugal, across Meo Sat, Eurosport and National Geographic. In the next months, Hispasat will extend his television offer in high definition with the incorporation of new channels.

One of the initiatives at which Hispasat is employed is the project Theater box HD, financed jointly by the Department of Industry inside the Plan Advances I+D. The Spanish operator is a driving leader and coordinator of this project. Between the targets of Theater box HD there are the investigation and the development of hardware for the control and measurement of the quality of the signs TVAD, both in production and transmission and in the reception for the users.

In this sense, in the last months there have been realized tests organized by TSA and the UPM, to value different technologies of compression and codification for linkage of satellite contribution of events for high definition.

These tests have counted with the collaboration of experts' unpanel who have evaluated different configurations and teams conclusions having been obtained that more and more defendants will allow to optimize the quality of the HDTV for this type of professional linkage, especially for sports and cultural events.

In the next months, the project Theater box HD 2008 will tackle a campaign of measurements and field tests in real collective facilities where there will be analyzed the state of the collective facilities and his compatibility with DVB-S2.

In this campaign the TV channels will be cited as an example in high definition transmitted across the satellites HISPASAT by means of the new system DVB-S2. In her all the associates of the consortium will inform Theater box HD and, of special form, Fenitel that has selected a group of fitters of telecommunications for these tests.

The project Theater box HD is eminently practical. The taking part companies are employed at the interoperability and diffusion of the existing knowledge of this technology to contribute to a suitable implantation of the high definition, evaluating and investigating the present technologies in different stages of presentation of services of HDTV. They integrate the consortium: HISPASAT, GSERTEL, TELEVES, UPM, CRTVE, SOGECABLE, HyCTV, TSA, FENITEL, and PROMAX.


Driving Hispasat of the TV in high definition

HISPASAT initiated his bet for the diffusion of the high definition in Spain in 1992 with the first transmissions of HDTV in Europe, across his satellite Hispasat 1st, with the system 2HD-MAC. The television in high definition characterizes for a resolution of major image, high quality of audio with the audio incorporation multichannel and a reason of aspect normalized of a panoramic vision.

In 2006, it realizes the transmission of the first channel in high definition in Castilian in Spain, the Channel AD. This channel produced by Phone companhy Audio-visual Service, is included inside the project ADI (Alta Definición Interactiva), endorsed by the Department of Industry, across the program Profit. His emission continued the standard of codification Mpeg 4/AVC/H.264 HD. For the reception of the sign of the Channel AD was necessary the installation of a satellite dish of small diameter faced towards HISPASAT, a digital decoder of high definition and a TV set HD Ready or Full HD.

After the success of ADI, HISPASAT began to be employed at the project Theater box HD, whose target is to support the expansion of the television in high definition in Spain.

On the other hand, HISPASAT is a member of Forum TVAD and of the Europaean High Definition Forum (EHDF) in which it takes part actively. Also, in February HISPASAT will act of host of the next meeting of the EHDF.
