At present the satellites Astra spread 26 chains in HDTV (24 at the end of 2006).
These channels are those who spread the British platform BSkyB in 28,2nd of Astra, the French CanalSat in the position of 19,2nd East and for Germany Prosieben, Sat 1 and Anixe.
This fact of 26 channels in HDTV confirms with the fact that at the end of 2005 only there were six chains that they were expressing using this new technology.
SES Astra hopes to be able cuadriplicar the current number of channels in HDTV to manage to come to 160 chains in 2010. According to the forecasts, nearly 9 million hearths of Western Europe will have access to the television of high definition in 2010, what there would suppose 60 % of all the hearths equipped for this new norm.
The increase of the offer in HDTV of the satellites Astra reveals that the system satelitario of the company with head office in Luxembourg keeps on redeeming a leader's role in the digitization and the extension of channels in high definition, according to Alexander Oudendijk, commercial chief of SES Astra.
