Last January 31, a rocket Zenit-3SL that had to put in orbit the satellite of communications NSS-8, exploded moments after his blast-off from a floating platform in the Pacific Ocean after several days the operation being postponed by the bad weather.
The satellite NSS-8, constructed by Boeing, belonged to the Dutch company SES New Skies, SES branch, and it was destined to give communication services to countries of Europe, Africa, Middle East, the Indian subcontinent and Asia. In particular, the satellite, which had been to exist posicionado to 56th East, was provided with 36 transpondedores in band Ku and 56 repeaters in band C. It had the target to replace in this position the NSS 703.
After this mishap, the old man NSS-703 will remain in the same orbit, at least until 2009, year in which one hopes that it could be already constructed and ready to there be thrown the satellite NSS-9.
