The International Union of Telecommunications (UIT) gave to Mexico a term until March, 2008 to exploit the orbit satelital 109,2nd or of another form this authorization would be delivered to the Government of Canada.
The Secretariat of Communications and Transports analyzes other options, like the possibility to give an authorization to new companies so that the State preserves this orbital position.
"The federal government is still provided with the position of orbit that it has like deadline to occupy it in March, 2008 therefore we are analyzing and looking for other options to support it", told the spokeswoman of the department, Adriana Cuevas.
The Mexican government bid from 2006 this position to avoid the loss of this orbit and the company QuetzSat proved like winner because other companies moved back from the process.
The Federal Commission of Telecommunications (Cofetel) thought that in case of a retirement of this orbit it would represent for Mexico economic losses near to 11 million dollars, it means a technological regression and a decrease of the Latin-American leadership in the services provision satelitales.
"In case Mexico does not expire with the time fixed by the UIT, automatically Canada would stay with the position and the Mexican government in case of looking for another authorization will have to of forming at the end of a claimants' long line that they look for orbit to give services of wide band satelital", said to Efe officials of the Cofetel.
The consortium QuetzSat is shaped by the signatures SES Americom and MEDCOM of Clemente Serna.
Between the services that will have to lend in this new orbit they are from the Direct Television to the Hearth (DTH - por his initials in English-); television of high definition, corporate private communication, service of transport for operators of networks of telecommunications and fixed services for satellite of high thickness.
Mexico is provided at present with four orbits satelitales, three in hands of Mexican Satellites (Satmex), which is in sale process, and remaining other one that had surrendered to QuetzSat.
