Next September 28 there appears in the Top Technical School of Engineers of Telecommunication of the Polytechnical University of Madrid the first experience of terrestrial digital television of high interactive definition: Campus HD.

The sign can be received by any recipient adapted in the environment of the University campus of Madrid.

The qualitative jump that proposes the Project Campus HD with regard to the current Terrestrial Digital television is on one hand in the quality of the sign, and for other one, the possibilities of interactivity in high definition. The exceptional thing is that it is a question of a technology absolutely compatible with the current standards of digital television (DVB and MPEG) and with those who will exist when the analogical blackout happens in 2010. In fact, at present, although the sign of Campus HD takes place and expresses in Alta Definición, it spreads in parallel in standard definition.

The emission of Campus HD began on July 1, although tests were realized during the first semester, thanks to a license of temporary TDT granted by the State Department of Telecommunications to the consortium of investigation that carries out the project formed by Phone companhy Audio-visual Service (coordinating committee of the project), the Top Technical School of Engineers of Telecommunication of the UPM (ETSIT-UPM), RTVE, Sogecable, Fresh-IT, Televés, Hispasat, Astra and HyC.

The initiative Alta Definición Interactiva (ADI) is framed inside the project PROFIT, of the Department of Industry Tourism and Commerce.


A significant change in the image, the audio and added services

The transition from the traditional analogical television up to the new panorama of digital television has allowed to the users to enjoy not only a major image quality, but break with the traditional scheme of passive viewer up to turning the receiving TV device into a multimedia terminal with interactive options.

The penetration the hearths of the screens HD Ready, like those of plasma or LCD, it leads the users to demanding every time major quality of image and sound for his TV sets. Therefore, the Technology and the Industry of the sector are preparing themselves to give the definitive jump to the high definition.

In a few years, we have gone on from 576 visible horizontal lines in a system of standard digital television, to 720 ó 1080 lines in high definition. In parallel, every line happens of 1920 points are formed by 720 points 1280 ó. The experience of observing a sequence in high digital definition unites not only his top quality of image but also of sound. The audio expresses in format 5.1 (like the devices of Home Cinema), opposite to the sound stereo of the traditional television.
